3 Ways to Improve My Child’s Spanish Skills This Summer

What happens if your child doesn’t spend some time this summer reviewing last school year’s material?
SUMMER BRAIN DRAIN!

Follow these three simple steps to ensure that your student doesn’t lose all of that great Spanish vocabulary and grammar (especially if Spanish is on next year’s class schedule)! ¡Vamanos!

  1. Expose your Child to Spanish!
Do you have a friend or family member who speaks Spanish? No matter how basic your child’s Spanish skills are, practicing the words and phrases that she knows is always a good way to help the information stick! Consider other creative ways to expose your child to the language, such as adding Spanish subtitles to movies and TV shows or labeling household items in Spanish!
  2. Use “Quizlet” to Practice Spanish Vocabulary!
Many K-12 Spanish teachers use an online notecard resource called “Quizlet” as a tool for students to study their vocabulary during the school year. If you child doesn’t already know about last year’s class Quizlet set, you might find the link by visiting your teacher’s page on your school website. With an easy-to-use website and mobile app, Quizlet can ensure that your student doesn’t lose all of that great vocabulary that she worked so hard to learn!
  3. Download a Fun Spanish App!
Does your child have some free time to kill during road trips or long summer days? There are tons of Spanish apps with interactive games to help your child practice vocabulary and grammar skills! Some of our favorites are: “Duolino,” “MindSnacks,” and “FluentU!”
